Plot: The story of “The Alchemist” is about a boy, named, Santiago, who embarks on a journey in search of treasure in the Egyptian pyramids after having a recurring dream about it. Along the way, he meets new people who guide him on his journey and later meets a girl and ends up falling in love with her. In his journey, he learned some valuable lessons, came to know about his true identity, and changed himself for the better. It taught him to focus on what matters in life.

“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”. It’s my favourite quote from this book. The urge to achieve our dreams is what truly makes life beautiful and exciting. In this novel, the central theme is following our own personal legend, believing in it even if no one else does, and the danger of fear because fear takes away the chance to achieve something great. The writing style of the story was simple yet deep. It explained the meaning of life beautifully and subtly. The whole story revolves around discovering your true self and going after your dreams just like Santiago faced all obstacles in the way of finding the treasure. The main plot of the story takes place in Spanish pastures, the Spanish town of Tarifa, and the Sahara desert. The Alchemist is set in an indistinct time in the past.

The story is narrated in the third person form and the tone is ancient myth or fable. The narration is episodic because the author is talking about the adventures of the protagonist during his quest. The major conflict that Santiago faces in his quest is to choose between completing his personal legend (finding treasure at the pyramid) or settling for the treasure he has already earned. The dilemma is resolved when he finally decides to follow his dream and go to the pyramids. In the end, Santiago finally arrives at the pyramids after facing all the hurdles but, there’s a big twist in the story and he must go back to Spain because he learns that the treasure was buried in an abandoned church, from where he started his journey.  The story consists of a good climax shocking Santiago as well as the readers.

In conclusion, the story motivates the readers to never give up on their dreams and aspirations because it gives life a meaning and worth. The story successfully reached the readers and created an impact on people like me who needed some courage to follow their dreams. It encouraged us to take risks in life and listen to our hearts. “Remember that wherever your heart is, there you will find your treasure”.
