- Reconstruction of Identity through Women’s Writing
Women’s writing marked a significant shift in the late twentieth century, evolving into a distinct field of study with a rich and diverse history. Prominent seventeenth-century writers such as Aphra Behn and Mary Astell have laid the ground for future feminist writings by addressing gender and power dynamics and advocating for women’s education and opportunities. Women’s writing challenges conventional patriarchal norms and reclaims women’s societal position, reconstructing their reality - Madness

I think, therefore I am.” – René Descartes I am a woman—but is my identity solely defined by my gender? Identity is a complex and evolving concept, shaped by our personality, experiences, and aspirations. It is a dynamic force that transforms throughout our life journey. Yet, in today’s world, identity is increasingly being reduced to gender. People often see the gender first and only then attempt to see the person. This societal habit of labeling and categorizing is an attempt to confine women within a patriarchal framework, as if their existence can be neatly boxed into predefined roles created by… Read more: Identity - Trauma
It crawls into the mind.Late at night, and attacks the subconscious From nightmares andanxiety to paranoia, the mind fights a battle only to lose andgets subdued. Been there before;buthere we go again. The distortions of the mind stinging like pieces of glass stuck in the heart. There are glimpses of an unsettling rage, repression of viciousmemories, and adeliberate attempt to avoid the distressed state. Leads to fragmentation of the mind Into bits andpieces of the urge andlack of motion. The memories play a trickon the mind. Doesn’t let you unwind. It traps you into the continuum cycle of psychosislike a spiral staircase to… Read more: Trauma - Impact of societal expectations and peer pressure
As a third-year college student, I’ve faced my share of problems, like peer pressure, societal expectations and what not?. Trust me, I understand it’s a significant challenge and isn’t easy to deal with, as you want to excel in studies but at the same time also want to go out with friends, attend concerts, and make a lot of memories to look back to. There is constant pressure in the mind to fulfill the expectations of other people, like your family and friends. This intense pressure sometimes leads to anxiety and panic attacks, especially when there is an important presentation… Read more: Impact of societal expectations and peer pressure - Women: An object of male gaze?
“The objectification of women leads to a society that devalues us as individuals.” This poignant quote by Sex Object encapsulates the grave consequences of objectifying women. For centuries, women have been under scrutiny; they have been objectified, or should I say reduced, to an object of the male gaze. It’s nothing new but a continuation of a misogynistic tradition. It has persisted over the years on the belief that men are superior to women because of biological differences. But is it fair to differentiate based on the biological difference? In the nineteenth century society dominated by men, women faced many… Read more: Women: An object of male gaze? - Havoc of Warfare
Looking out the window of my room,I can see the havoc and the doom. Innocent bodies lying around inBits and pieces. Atrocity in the name of patriotismincreases. It feels excruciating to unveil the darkest side of humanity. I see the dead silence and blindfolded executives, during this calamity. Gaza needs help yet there is no ounce of amity. My heart is torn looking at the innocent fellows wounded. The terror reignites when the possibility of survival is ruined. They who make a heaven ofour miserywon’t be able to celebrate for longtheir victory. Till then, I weep and close myeyes to restCause some… Read more: Havoc of Warfare - Fragments
The fragments of the mind left untethered In the dead of night. Closeted feelings startedcreeping in. The shield fell off, dark thoughts took control like a wild thunderstorm In the night sky. The fragments turned into memories of the subconscious mind. Avoided to avert the ache Of my soulless soul. The inevitable confrontationhas begun. The subdued ones have emergedLike a glacier of Titanic Destroying my being. By – Aleena - What am I made of?
People often ask me,” What is your story?”a question that I often stumble upon. I then pause and begin reminiscing about my childhood. It takes me back to the time when I lived in a bubble, shielded from all the pain and failed expectations. The pleasant memories surge in, replaying in my mind like a ninetees nostalgic movie, and I begin to smile. Although, some memories used to hurt like a needle pinning in my heart and made me question my very existence in life. “What am I made of”? I start to ponder upon the question once again. Am… Read more: What am I made of? - Broken Mirror
